- news@fortmilltimes.com

FORT MILL TOWNSHIP --

A York County Sheriff's Office deputy arrested a man accused of stealing items from a Goodwill collection site on Gold Hill Road, according to a report.

Richard Robert Dennis, who sheriff's deputies say is homeless, was arrested Tuesday for allegedly taking items from a Goodwill trailer parked on Gold Hill Road near the intersection of Hwy. 160 West. The deputy who made the arrest said Dennis admitted to stealing two boxes with dishes and cups as well as a bed frame for scrap metal, according to the report.

The deputy said he was on patrol on Gold Hill Road Tuesday when he saw a GMC Sierra pull out from between two Goodwill trailers. The deputy wrote in his report that he stopped to investigate and questioned the driver, Dennis, who allegedly told the deputy he's homeless and was there just to use a portable toilet. Dennis later, confessed to taking the items and putting them in his truck, according to the report.

Dennis was taken into custody, transported to the Fort Mill Police Department and later to the York County Detention Center. Animal Control was called in to take a dog Dennis had with him, the report states.
