Pat attention to what really matters

This letter is in response to Jules Giglio, a fellow resident of Indian Land, and his disappointment in his letter carrier and delivery time.

I’m so sick and tired of picking up the Fort Mill Times and reading another letter about people dogging on the mail carriers. Let me make it clear first and foremost that I am not a mail carrier, never have been a mail carrier, or do I know anyone who is. In fact I met someone for the first time in my life last week who works for the Postal Service.

To the critics of the mail carriers, I have to ask, how can you not know that the Postal Service is in the same economic crunch as everyone else? The Postal Service has been hanging on by its fingernails to stay afloat for the past three to five years now, with many Post Offices closing and many people getting laid off like almost every other business. When that happens, it does not mean these carriers have less homes to deliver to, it just means the routes are longer, and the work load on one carrier increases, which means longer days. As for their mail vehicles being broke down, in my neighborhood alone I have seen mail trucks broke down three times. Why are they broken down? Because due to cutbacks, I can only assume maintenance on the vehicles is being cut back. Can the Postal Service afford to fix them? Probably. Will they? Probably not.

Why?

For the same reason big corporations cut corners – to save money and let the poor quality of a product fall on the lower level employees to deal with. I know all too well throughout my life working for employers who leave laborers below them to have to deal with angry customers cause we were given junk to work with, and a ridiculous work load that three people would have a hard time keeping up with. So please go easy on the mail carriers, and get used to poor mail service, because trust and believe, it is only going to get worse before it gets better as long as our economy is in the mess it’s in, and as the Internet eventually puts the Postal Service completely out of business.

You all would be better served concerning your self as to why we have an administration in Washington who is “hell bent” on taking our guns, but gives the makers of violent videos, and movies, aka Hollywood, a pass or passing glance at best. And why President Obama feels completely comfortable giving 10 of our best combat jets and 100 of our best tanks and other weapons to Egypt which is presently being run by a terrorist. A man who said, “the Jewish people are descendents of apes and pigs.” Hmmmm real nice guy, huh? I’m sure we must have some chemical weapons laying around that we could send him, also.

So please people, pay attention to what really matters cause you’re about to find out that getting your mail late is soon going to be the least of your worries. Ya’ll have a peaceful blest day now! Ya hear?
