• A rush hour police chase through Fort Mill and Lancaster County ended with three men in jail charged with drunk driving, resisting arrest, indecent exposure, flipping a car down a deep ravine and other charges.
• Shannon Giles was crowned Miss Fort Mill High in a pageant sponsored by the student council. Cathy Lightsey was runner-up.
• The old Duke Power building on Tom Hall Street was demolished to make room for the new Fort Mill Fire Department building.
• Lynn Williams of Close Street, Fort Mill, received the Coach of the Year Award at the South Carolina All-Star Swimming Banquet in Columbia.
1973
• Mrs. Dottie Kirkley Weaver, 28, former Fort Mill High School girls basketball coach, died in a Charlotte hospital following an illness.
• Several Fort mill area residents reported sighting deer in the area, an unusual sight for this area.
• Fort Mill’s city council voted to accept Law Enforcement Assistance Program (LEAP) funds for the Fort Mill Police Department.
• A booster club for the Fort Mill High School band was organized. The “Blue and Gold Diggers Club” welcomed all citizens to join.
1953
• Fort Mill’s Main Street took on a new appearance at nighttime as seven new mercury-vapor lamps were installed.
• March of Dimes contributions in Fort Mill set a new record as $1,700 was collected.
1933
• Fort Mill was fortunate that during the depressed business conditions of the time that there had not been any business failures of mercantile firms.
• B.C. Tvedt, World War veteran, found ill and destitute in a tent near Fort Mill, was taken to the veteran’s hospital in Columbia.
1913
• The Methodists of the town were expected in the near future to begin construction of a new and handsome parsonage to replace the one burned several months ago.
• M.M. Merritt, a well-known young man of the town, accepted a position at Williamston, S.C. with the Southern Power Co.
