Welch wins Fort Mill Elks’ shootout, goes back to Nationals

FORT MILL -- 

On Jan. 13, the Fort Mill Elks Lodge 2859 hosted a free throw Hoop Shoot Competition. It was one of a series of qualifiers for various age groups held across the country with winners moving on to a national competition.

The winners in the 8-9 year-old boys’ category were: Thomas Heath, first place; Gus Sharpless, second place; and H.K. Sharpless, third place.

The winner for 8-9 year-old girls’ category was Samantha Causey.

In the 10-11 year-old boys’ category, the winner was Tyler Causey, first place, followed by Luke Kirby, second place; and J.T. Marr, third place.

The winners for 10 -11 year old girls’ were Casey Carhart, first place; Riley Ellington, second place; and Rachel Sivec, third place.

The winners in the 12 -13 year old boys’ category were Thomas Welch, first place; Simon Shore, second place; and Casey Ellington, third place. This is the second consecutive year Welch is advancing to the national competition.
