RC’s Sandbar in Fort Mill evokes a beach theme

FORT MILL -- 

A local group is hoping to reel in customers to RC’s Sandbar with a lure of great food, drinks, music and fun.

It’s a posh little place sporting pool tables, high tech sights and sounds, a claim to the biggest bar in Fort Mill and a diverse menu.

The Sandbar is a simple storefront situated on Hwy. 21 about 1.5 miles from the Peach Stand, just past the Forest Ridge subdivision. When you enter, the rectangular space is welcoming. Warm wood floors and tables, chef-prepared salads, burgers and sandwiches; lush green and gold walls sporting nine flat-screen TVs; a granite-topped wood bar with 30 comfy bar stools; and a high tech TouchTunes jukebox will beckon you in on a weekend night.

Scott Couchenour, formerly of SCS Floors, decided to open the beach bar in Fort Mill because the south side of town was mighty empty along Hwy. 21 just this side of the bridge. Together with chefs Eric Masters, Jason Zima and Nick Merk; bar manager Walt Richardson and servers Tracy Rush and Angie Brown, the team hopes to bring the south side of town to life.

“The bar is adult oriented,” said Couchenour, “but family friendly.” High chairs are available. Tables and the bar seat 50 comfortably and there is the opportunity for future outside seating. There’s also a cozy sofa area at the far end of the space.

The crew has opted for a soft opening during the slow winter months, hoping word of mouth will bring in business.

“Plus, it allows us to get our feet wet,” said Masters, who is no stranger to the local restaurant scene. You might remember him from Café Carolinas over on Gold Hill Road.

The menu at the Sandbar features Reuben’s, roast beef, wraps, wings and various salads are the mainstay. Appetizers run the gamut from fried pickles and sliders to nachos, crab cakes and chili. There’s also Grandma’s Pimento recipe.

Craft beers are available on tap and bottled.

RC stands for River Crossing, which is the area of Fort Mill surrounding the River Walk. Lunches are $10 to $12 and include drinks and a gratuity. Cheesecake and key lime pie are available for dessert

The bar is closed Monday and Tuesday, but opens at 11:30 Wednesday through Sunday, closing at 2 a.m. weekends and 10 on Sundays. Wednesday and Thursday it’s open ‘til midnight.

Couchenour explains the location, saying “This side of town needed something with a beachy feel and a rock and roll bar- type menu. My wife, Teri, has been extremely supportive and understanding,” he said. The crew hopes for ladies nights out, pool leagues, trivia nights and perhaps darts in the future.
