FORT MILL --
The cheer and dance teams from Banks Trail, Gold Hill, Fort Mill and Springfield middle schools performed Thursday night at the Fort Mill School District’s 2013 Cheer and Dance Expo.
Springfield hosted this year’s event, which featured guest performances by the Diamond, Emerald and Ruby Cheer Jewels squads from the Complex on the Greenway and the Nation Ford High School dance team. Nation Ford JV cheerleaders volunteered to facilitate the event.
Gold Hill won first place in the cheer division. The music and aerial moves were inspired by “Superman,” coach Dee Dee Lyons said.
Springfield placed first in dance, ending the evening’s competitive performances with a powerful lyrical piece performed to Rachel Crow’s “Mean Girls.” Dance soloist Brooke Burks explains the message behind the dance:
“Just stop bullying. Just put a stop to it because it hurts everyone’s feelings.”
Banks Trail and Fort Mill placed third and fourth, respectively, in both divisions. Judges were Jill Matthews, Kristen Rhodes and Mandy Daigle. The evening ended as competitors, performers and fans converged on the gym floor for a dance party.
