Here’s your chance to ‘berry the competition’ at the S.C. Strawberry Festival

April 22, 2013

Do you have a talent for cooking? Have a secret family recipe you’re eager to showcase? Then the S.C. Strawberry Festival wants to hear from you!

If you have a delicious and creative way to showcase the festival’s signature ingredient, you’re invited to test your culinary skills by participating in the fourth annual strawberry recipe contest. Participants will compete in three sumptuous categories. There are lots of great prizes, including cash, festival merchandise, and of course, bragging rights.

Many will enter, but only one will have what it takes to “berry the competition!”

To compete in the contest, fill out and return an official entry form by 5 p.m. Friday, April 26.

Entries will be judged based on taste, creativity, use of strawberries and appearance. At noon on the Founders Stage, officials will announce the first-, second-, and third-place winners in each category, as well as “Queens’ Choice” and the coveted “Best in Show” award winners.

There is no cost to enter, and participation is open to any amateur regardless of age or residency. Only 25 entries will be accepted in each category. For official contest rules and to download an entry form, go to scstrawberryfestival.com.

The festival gets under way at Nation Ford High School Saturday, April 27, with the annual Strawberry Festival Princess Pageant at noon, followed by the Teen, Miss and Mrs. Divisions at 7 p.m.

Other events that follow next week leading up the main day of the festival on May 4 include the Strawberry Festival Golf Tournament 9:30 a.m. May 1 at Springfield Golf Club. Proceeds benefit the Fort Mill Care Center.
