Thousands flocked to the 2013 S.C. Strawberry Festival

May 6, 2013

The weather might have felt more like winter, but spring is officially here as Fort Mill’s annual springtime celebration, the South Carolina Strawberry Festival, ended with a bang.

The week of fun began April 26 with a shindig for the hundreds of festival sponsors and volunteers, and ended Saturday with a fireworks show that night. Official attendance numbers have not yet been released, but a town spokesperson said a preliminary count was in the 45,000 range. If fewer people than the 55,000 who attended the 2012 festival showed up this year, the weather could be to blame. It was colder than usual and a light drizzle fell during times on Saturday, when forecasters said there was a good chance for heavy downpours.

The 2012 S.C. Strawberry Festival was named South Carolina’s Event of the Year for the second straight year.

The first weekend of festivities included the Strawberry Festival Pageant and a returning favorite, Pick-N-Flick, allowed people to pick strawberries and enjoy an outdoor family movie.
