Spring Valley too much for Nation Ford in the third round of tennis playoffs

— The Nation Ford Falcons’ tennis season came to an end in the third round of the 4A playoffs at the hands of Spring Valley as they fell 4-2 last week.

The Falcons had just two winners in their match in Columbia as No. 5 singles player David Habbick beat Arif Siddiqi 6-1, 6-1 and in doubles Chris Tapp and Jonathan Habbick beat Vikranth Reddy and Justin Stombler 7-6, 6-4.

Senior David Habbick went undefeated on the year for Nation Ford and was a bright and reliable spot on the team consistently during the season.

At No. 1 singles, Madison Ott finished his prep career falling to Brent Lett 6-0, 6-2. No. 2 singles Stephen Zoeller fell to Connor Burke 6-0, 6-1. No. 3 singles Chase Mahrlig and No. 4 singles Ben Herman also lost in straight sets.

However, the team received several post season awards en route to a Region III-AAAA title and 14-0 record in region play.

Receiving All-Region honors was Ott, Zoeller, Mahrlig, Herman, Tapp and both David and Jonathan Habbick.

Head coach Billy McKinney, who took the team all the way to the state title match in 2012, also won Region Coach of the Year.
