FORT MILL — Special to the Fort Mill Times
The coaching staff at Nation Ford High School will be holding a youth wrestling camp for the fourth consecutive year. The camp, 9 a.m.-noon June 24-28, is designed to:
• Promote the sport of wrestling to the community
• Introduce the coaches and staff at Nation Ford High School
Nation Ford head coach Paul Richardson notes how far the program has come since the school opened in 2007.
“Nation Ford has been making great strides in wrestling in South Carolina,” he said. “We had a very successful camp last year, our youth program that wrestled in many tournaments and had good numbers and we want to continue that success with another youth camp and continue to build our relationship with the community.”
Participants will be placed in divisions by age and ability. The camp routine will include stance, takedowns, riding, pinning and escapes. There will also be daily competition and games for the campers to play.
The staff asks that all campers come dressed and ready to wrestle. They will need to bring a packed snack, T-shirt, shorts, shoes, and a towel. Snack and drink machines are available. It’s advised that the wrestlers drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
The camp is designed to help the young boys and girls learn the basics of wrestling, have a good time during the week, and to provide a low cost camp for the parents. The cost is only $70 and that includes a Nation Ford Wrestling T-shirt. The camp will be staffed with coaches, and wrestlers from Nation Ford High School.
