Tega Cay Breakers’ title defense off to good start

— The four-time defending Metrolina League swim champion Tega Cay Breakers started the 2013 season right where it left off – with a win.

The Breakers easily swam past the Landing 417-171 in its only meet of the week, before a much-anticipated dual meet with the Baxter Barracudas was rained out.

Both teams are working together to get a make-up date, but already have a second match-up scheduled for June 24.

Tega Cay won seven of the eight relay events against the Landing. They also had 12 multi-event winners and six swimmers win three events.

Individual winners for the Breakers were:

Brielle Michaeli – girls’ 13-14 50-meter freestyle, 50-meter backstroke and 50-meter breaststroke

Brian Cavanaugh – boys’ 13-14 50-meter backstroke, 100-meter individual medley and 50-meter breaststroke

Elizabeth Scales – girls’ 9-10 25-meter backstroke, 100-meter individual medley and 25-meter butterfly

Joe Orehek – boys’ 11-12 50-meter backstroke, 50-meter breaststroke and 50-meter butterfly

Michelle Case – girls’ 15-18 100-meter individual medley, 50-meter breaststroke and 50-meter butterfly

Jack Corkery – boys’ 15-18 100-meter individual medley, 50-meter breaststroke and 50-meter butterfly

Josie Chandler – girls’ six and under 25-meter freestyle and 25-meter backstroke

Julia Cavanaugh – girls’ 9-10 25-meter freestyle and 25-meter breaststroke

Elizabeth Crumly – girls’ 11-12 50-meter freestyle and 50-meter butterfly

Blake Coston – boys’ 9-10 25-meter backstroke and 25-meter breaststroke

Kylie Namowicz – girls’ 11-12 50-meter backstroke and 100-meter individual medley

Abbi Michaeli – girls’ 13-14 100-meter individual medley and 50-meter butterfly

Tyler Ayer – boys’ 7-8 25-meter freestyle

Noah Everingham – boys’ 13-14 50-meter freestyle

Alden Weathers – boys’ six and under 25-meter backstroke

Kylie Bick – girls’ 7-8 25-meter backstroke

Mitchell Anderson – boys’ 7-8 25-meter backstroke

Kasparas Zilinskas – boys’ 15-18 50-meter backstroke

Owen Ford – boys’ 11-12 100-meter individual medley

Sydney Wilcox – girls’ 7-8 25-meter breaststroke

Matas Zilinskas – boys’ 7-8 25-meter breaststroke
