Sometimes it’s difficult to accept that the obstacles in life are there for a purpose and we have something to learn.
It all began when I went grocery shopping.
Our grandchildren were coming and I knew there would be a house filled with thirsty, hungry kids. I bought a lot of extras, including a lot of ice cream. I unloaded all the groceries and packed them into the refrigerator and then I sat down for a well deserved coffee break.
Later that afternoon, I opened the refrigerator to get something to start preparing dinner. It was not cold, but almost warm to the touch. I thought, “You have got to be kidding, right?” We put a thermometer in there to see if it was me or the refrigerator.
It was the refrigerator.
We called the repair man. His first question was, “How old is it?”
“It is around 14 years old.”
His reply: “Get a new one.”
After a trip to the dump with six big, full trash bags, we went looking for a refrigerator. We purchased a refrigerator and were excited to learn that they had an emergency delivery schedule. But since it was so late they would have to deliver it the next day.
I said to the salesman, “By the way, this handle is on the wrong side. Can they change it when they deliver it?”
“Sure,” he said.
The refrigerator was delivered, but the delivery man could not change the handle. It would have to be a “repair order.” So early the next morning we called and put a work order in. About an hour later the salesman called and said, “You purchased a model that cannot be switched.”
After doing the tango for two days trying get the door open from an awkward position, the salesman called and told us they would replace the refrigerator with one that had a right-hand door handle. Unfortunately, we would have to wait until Aug. 9. He saved the day, so I didn’t complain about the wait.

Yes, I should have realized and learned this a long time ago.
