Senior games set for Sept. 16

Tega Cay Parks and Rec will be hosting the 2013 Senior Games for Tega Cay, Fort Mill and surrounding areas Sept. 16-19.

The games are designed for participants 50 and older competing in games like cornhole, golf, croquet and bowling. The festivities end with a medal ceremony and a luncheon.

Stewart aces hole 10

Steve Stewart made a hole-in-one on hole 10 at Fort Mill Golf Club on Aug. 15.

He used a 7-iron for the 132-yard ace. It was witnessed by Jack Thompson, Tom Mills and David Bizik and was Stewart’s first hole-in-one.

Lax clinic Sept. 7

A lacrosse clinic featuring Ryan Flanagan of the Charlotte Hounds will be held Sept. 7 at Southwest Middle School, 13624 Steele Creek Rd, Charlotte.

Sign up for Springmaid race

Sign up to compete in the Springmaid Dirt Road Race 10K and 5K and run along paths steeped with Fort Mill history.

Race set for Oct. 5 at 8 a.m., starting from the Rush Pavilion on the Anne Springs Close Greenway. Participants in the race will receive two free admissions to the Fall Frolic events on the Greenway, running every weekend through October. Sale benefits wrestling team

An indoor yard sale will be 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, in the Fort Mill High School lobby.

Items for sale include clothing, books, games, toys, furniture, and other household items. Individuals wishing to purchase an outdoor vendor space may do so for $25.

All proceeds benefit the Fort Mill Wrestling Foundation.

Victory Sports teams available

Victory Sports has openings for kids in 4K up to grade 12 on falls sports teams that begin practicing Sept. 2.

Sports includes soccer, flag football, cheer and Conquer League sports for special-needs children age 6 and older.

Sheriff’s Foundation golf tournament Sept. 16

The Sheriff’s Foundation of York County will hold its seventh annual Invitational Golf Tournament Sept. 16 at the Springfield Golf Club in Fort Mill. Players and sponsors needed for the fundraiser.

Proceeds raised from previous golf tournaments financed $29,000 in scholarships for York County students. Also this year, proceeds will be used to purchase backpacks for students in need as well as support Safety Patrol programs and Boy Scout Explorer Post 1786.

Fly with the Future Falcons

The Nation Ford High Future Falcons program is for children ages 6-13.

Participants will have the opportunity to run through the tunnel with the team before a varsity home game, play flag football on the field during a practice, and eat ice cream with the team.

Members will be assigned a senior football player as their host to show them around the field, the locker room, answer questions, etc. Future Falcons will receive a commemorative picture of the 2013 group and a membership card that will provide them a free combo from the concession stand at all home varsity games during the 2013-14 season.

YMCA has summer sports camps

The Fort Mill/Gold Hill branches are offering a variety of creative, educational and entertaining summer specialty and sports camps designed to expand on existing skills and interests and to build new ones.

Sports camps include basketball, soccer, lacrosse and football. Specialty camps include Bricks 4 Kidz LEGO Camps, Performing Arts Camp and Summer Dance Workshops.

Lacrosse club open to local kids

The Fort Mill Lacrosse Club offers teams for boys ages 15 and younger under and girls in second to eighth grades. Registration and additional information is available at fmlacrosse.com.

Knights offer deals

The 2013 season is approaching and The Charlotte Knights are ready to give fans a jump on purchasing single-game tickets to a select number of 2013 games. Fans can purchase tickets online only to the following games:

Final Regular Season Game at Knights Stadium – Monday, Sept. 2.

•  All 10 Flashback Friday Games – Knights will commemorate 24 seasons at Knights Stadium with a series of promotions and giveaways.

To purchase tickets to these select games, fans will need to sign-up for the Knights e-newsletter. A special pre-sale code was will be emailed to all subscribers prior to Presidents Day. Fans already signed up for the e-newsletter do not need to re-register.

Single-game ticket prices are $15 for field box seats, $13 for lower level reserved and $9 for general admission. By purchasing tickets in advance, fans will save $1 on all of the single-game ticket pricing. Full season and partial season ticket packages are on sale and can be purchased by calling 704-357-8071 ext. 2106 or online at charlotteknights.com.

Youth, teen rugby players wanted

The Fort Mill Dragons Rugby Club is looking for players from beginner to experienced to play on middle school (ages 10-14) and high school (19 and younger) teams. Indian Land boosters seek help

Train at the Y with Fitness 101

Fitness 101 at the Fort Mill YMCA is a course designed for anyone serious about getting leaner, stronger and in shape once and for all.

Get the information you need to meet your fitness goals by addressing such issues as proper breathing, range of motion and exercise selection.

The course meets at 9 a.m. the third Saturday of each month and the cost is $5.
