FORT MILL — The Fort Mill girls’ golf team has gotten the season off on the right foot by winning its first two matches.
After opening up with a win against Nation Ford in August, Fort Mill continued to play well in its first home match at Fort Mill Golf Club by beating Northwestern last week 199-219.
“We are slowly, but surely getting better,” said head coach Steve Gribble. “We are getting a little better every time. Some of the younger girls are making strides.”
The Lady Jackets were led by Catherine Blum’s 48 and Alex O’ Neill’s 49. Both Devin Sallenger and Ashley Babinchak shot 51 to round out the top four. Randi Smith was Fort Mill’s fifth finisher with a 55 and Marissa Grodi shot a 64.
Gribble said he is still trying to find his No. 1 golfer and it has been floating between three veterans in Blum, O’ Neill and Smith.
Gribble said the biggest thing his team needs to do is get more consistent.
“We are real inconsistent,” he said. “We have to learn to be more consistent and put it together on the same day.”
Fort Mill is scheduled to participate in its first tournament of the year at the Palmetto Preview at the Mid-Carolina Golf Course this week. Next week they are scheduled to take on Nation Ford again and South Pointe for the first time this season.
