Panthers at Bills: 5 Plays That Mattered

12:04 left, first quarter

Two plays after hitting tight end Greg Olsen for a 31-yard gain on Panthers’ opening drive, Cam Newton is intercepted by linebacker Kiko Alonso on second-and-16 from the Bills’ 26. Newton was throwing to Brandon LaFell, but Alonso undercut the route.

1:13 left, second quarter

With the Panthers in their two-minute offense, fullback Mike Tolbert catches a short pass and runs for an 18-yard gain to the Bills’ 25. It’s the longest play on the Panthers’ first touchdown drive, capped by Olsen’s 13-yard reception.

4:47 left, third quarter

On first-and-10 from the Bills’ 45, Buffalo wide receiver Stevie Johnson gets inside linebacker Jon Beason on a quick route, catches E.J. Manuel’s pass and goes 45 yards to the Panthers’ 10. Bills score first touchdown two plays later.

9:30 left, fourth quarter

After getting a short field following a defensive takeaway, Panthers face a third-and-4 from the Buffalo 6. The Bills’ pressure flushes Newton out of the pocket and defensive end Mario Williams forces him out of bounds for a 1-yard loss. The Panthers settle for a field goal and a 20-14 lead.

21 seconds left, fourth quarter

On third-and-6 from the Panthers’ 31, Manuel’s deep throw is intercepted by safety Colin Jones. But the play is negated by a pass interference penalty on linebacker Luke Kuechly, and the Bills score the game-winning touchdown two plays later.
