Let’s beautify Fort Mill’s downtown

My husband and I recently attended the Matthews Festival, which is a yearly happening. I noticed the hanging baskets and planter that line Main Street and snapped the attached picture. I noticed that they were planted with begonias, varieties of sweet potato vines and other trailing annuals and were absolutely beautiful. Because of the size of the plants I believe these annuals were planted in the spring and let grow through the summer and fall months.

My question is – is this something we could consider doing for our Main Street in Fort Mill? Our flower baskets and planters seem to get changed out a few times a year and never seem to flourish. This must be a costly and timely job, and I think if it was done with the right plantings at the beginning of the season our streets could look as good as Matthews!

I, myself, am into gardening and would like to volunteer to work with whoever is in charge of the plantings to come up with a new format for the plantings. I can be reached at RJGuchone@Yahoo.com

Thank you very much and I look forward to hearing from someone who has this responsibility.
