FORT MILL — Both the Nation Ford and Fort Mill girls’ tennis teams will open the playoffs this week.
Nation Ford, winners of Region III-AAAA with a 13-1 region record, will play host to Dorman, while Fort Mill, which finished third in the region at 10-4, hits the road to play Spartanburg.
“We have played really well in the region, better than others expected,” said Fort Mill head coach Angela Niccum. “We played strong at each line, despite the opponent and hope to do the same during playoffs. We know that we are scheduled to play a higher seeded team, but we are ready for whatever they will bring to the match.”
If Nation Ford wins, they will pay the winner of the Blythewood-Hillcrest match, while Fort Mill would play the winner of TL Hanna and Woodmont. Nation Ford would have home court advantage through the majority of the playoffs. Fort Mill and Nation Ford could meet in the Upper State finals Nov. 6 if both win out through the first three rounds.
Fort Mill had a makeup match against Northwestern to finish out the regular season and won 4-2. Leading the way for the Lady Jackets was No. 2 singles player Reagan Paff, who won 6-3, 7-5.
Also winning for Fort Mill was No. 4 singles Jessica Zahn 6-1, 6-0 and No. 5 singles Matea Milojkovic 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles action, Mya Reeves and Jamie Davis won 6-2, 6-4.
