LUGOFF — Trailing two sets to one, the Nation Ford volleyball team rallied on the road to beat Lugoff-Elgin 3-2 (21-25, 28-26, 20-25, 25-23, 15-10) to advance to the third round of the state playoffs.
Nation Ford will take on Hillcrest on Tuesday in the third round. The Falcons struggled early in the match, but were able to move their line up around and play better at the net and on the back line.
“We were on cruise control,” said Falcons coach Carrie Christian. “We were playing hesitant and started playing more aggressive. We had to make some adjustments we hadn’t had to make all season.”
Nation Ford senior Amy Snyder got the Falcons off to a good start in the fifth and final game by serving for the first two points. Snyder led with 55 assists, four kills and nine digs. Junior Abby Wyman would have 14 kills and five digs and sophomore Jessica Kemp had 23 kills and six blocks.
Nation Ford started well in the fourth and second sets, as they went up 4-2 in the fourth set to open.
The Falcons’ play at the net helped extended their lead to 9-5 before a Lugoff-Elgin timeout.
The timeout didn’t help the Demons as Nation Ford continued with momentum on their side going up 13-7.
