Coroner: Worker who fell from Fort Mill elementary school dies

— The construction worker who fell last week while working on a Fort Mill elementary school died, York County Coroner Sabrina Gast said on Monday.

Fredy Noe Urraco Zelaya, 28, died Friday at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where he was taken by emergency officials after his fall from Doby’s Bridge Elementary SchoolTuesday, Gast said. He died late Friday.

At about 7:30 a.m., Fort Mill police officers were sent to the school after receiving word of Urraco’s fall, Fort Mill Maj. Bryan Zachary said last week. Police learned that Urraco, of Charlotte, fell from an upper roof area onto a lower roof level before falling to the ground.

He was airlifted to CMC, where he was listed in critical condition for much of last week, police said.

Urraco worked for a sub-contractor, Basland Inc., a drywall company based in Matthews, N.C.
