Middle school wrestlers from Fort Mill qualify for state meet

Springfield Middle School wrestlers who won medals at the qualifier are: Joshua Paxtor (100 pounds, third place), Jack Kelley (185, second), Brody Claassen (94, second) and Jason Nunoo (146, third).

— Seven local middle school wrestlers qualified for the Middle School State championships Saturday as part of a qualifying tournament at Fort Mill High.

Wrestlers from Gold Hill Middle who qualified are Jared Pierce, Chris King, Nick McKinness, Jackson Ford and Michael Campbell. Both Pierce and King finished first in their weight class.

Springfield Middle wrestlers Brody Claassen and Jack Kelley also quailed with Claassen finishing first in his weight class. The wrestlers are part of a combined team affiliated with the Fort Mill High School program.

Last week, that middle school team won by criteria over Saluda Trail Middle School after ending the meet tied at 42. Winning wrestlers from Gold Hill included Mac Kensie Larson, Pierce, King, McKinness, Ford and Campbell. Springfield winners were Claassen and Kelley.

Earlier in the week, the team fell to Sullivan Middle 42-37. Larson, Pierce, King, McKinness, Ford, Campbell, Kelley and Claassen all won.
