— Two more Region III wins has put the Fort Mill wrestling team on a collision course with Rock Hill once again.

Both are undefeated in Region III and Fort Mill will face the Bearcats Thursday at Rock Hill High at 5-0 in the conference and 14-2 overall on the year.

Fort Mill, ranked 13th in the state, is scheduled to take on No. 1-ranked Rock Hill at 7 p.m.

The Jackets knocked off two more Region III opponents recently, beating Clover 51-18 and 11th ranked York 51-24, despite having to forfeit three weight classes in each match.

“It’s always nice to win,” said Fort Mill head coach Chris Brock.

Fort Mill got out to a good start against York, going up 18-0 before having to forfeit three straight matches, which tied things 18-18. The Jackets got wins to start from Austin Gard (138), Evan Stankovitz (145), Nigel Bostick (152) and Jack Debbout (160).

The Jackets got a pin fall win from BJ Hurst (220) to go up 24-18, but then lost at heavyweight by pin fall to tie the match at 24. From there the match cycled back to the top of the order with the lower weights, which has been Fort Mill’s bread and butter all season long.

Fort Mill won the next five matches, four of them with pins in the first period. John Brotemarkle got a win at 106, followed by pins from AJ Leitten (113), Eddie Byrams (120), Jake Strong (126) and Nick Gray (132).

“We can count on putting numbers on the board at (106) through (132),” Brock said. “They are our anchors.”

Against Clover, the Jackets got wins from Gray (132), Gard (138), Stankovitz (145), Bostick (152), Debbout (160), before having to forfeit three of the next four matches.

Hurst (195) got a win by forfeit, while Matt Neill, won at heavyweight. Brotemarkle (106), Leitten (113), Byrams (120) and Strong (126) finished out the match with wins as well.

After the match with Rock Hill, Fort Mill will finish the season at home against rivals Nation Ford at 7 p.m. Jan. 28.
