FORT MILL — “A Day of Service” was the theme of the town of Fort Mill’s official Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration.
It began Jan. 20 with a program at the Fort Mill Church of God that included a keynote address by Fort Mill resident Sammie Potts. It concluded with a reception at the Fort Mill History Museum, where exhibits on prominent local African-Americans are featured.
Residents were encouraged to participate in a cleanup of the George Fish Memorial in the Paradise community or signing up for the Adopt-A-Stream program. Those who attended the program were also asked to bring non-perishables to donate to the Church of God food bank and personal care items for the Fort Mill Care Center.
