— A thin blanketing of snow caused icy road conditions and led local schools and some businesses to close last week.

Less than an inch of snow fell, but temperatures that ranged from 16 to 34 degrees contributed to the problem. In Fort Mill, road conditions contributed to a minor collision and caused 15 cars to skid off the road, a police department spokesman said. Schools in Fort Mill called an early dismissal Jan. 28, then canceled classes the following day. Indian Land schools were also closed Jan. 29.

Fort Mill Town Hall opened later than usual last Wednesday and Fort Mill Municipal Court closed for the day.

In anticipation of the storm, last week’s annual McCallum/FFA dinner, a fundraiser sponsored by the Foundation for Fort Mill Schools, was rescheduled to 6 p.m. Feb. 18 at Captain Steve's restaurant on Hwy. 21 in Fort Mill. The public is invited.
