FORT MILL — The first Falcon Invitational and Sprint Exhibition will be held March 1 at Nation Ford High.
The preseason event will feature middle and high school students and is a fundraiser for the Nation Ford track program.
Last year, the Falcons’ squad qualified for the prestigious Penn Relays in Pennsylvania, but couldn’t go because of the cost. This year, fundraisers like the Falcon Invitational could help offset that expense if the team gets another opportunity to compete.
“If we get as many as 10 schools, we could provide the funding,” said boys’ track coach Christopher Ross. “If we raise $2,000 we will be able to send them if they qualify again.”
So far, Ross said the event has six teams registered and 51 athletes entered. The event is also open to individual athletes, such as home-schooled and private school students.
“We would love to have local schools on the North Carolina and South Carolina sides,” he said.
Ross said he hopes the event takes off and the school can hold it on an annual basis.
