Special to the Fort Mill TimesFebruary 25, 2014

— Springfield Middle School students were encouraged to pursue their dreams during the school’s Continuing the Dream: In Celebration of African-American HistoryFriday .

“Success is never settling for average,” said guest speaker Audrina Bigos of WCCB Charlotte.

The celebration kicked off with a video compilation of teachers and school administrators reading the “I Have A Dream” speech that Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered in 1963 at The Lincoln Memorial.

Springfield Middle students Abby Walker, Raymirea Johnson and Cassidi Dozier performed “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Jason Nunoo led the Pledge of Allegiance and the Nation Ford JROTC presented the colors. The celebration featured performances by the Springfield Out Loud (SOL) choral group and the Evolution Dancers.
