— Fire officials are investigating a Saturday morning after flames burned a home in Tega Cay housefire Saturday morning that affected blocking roads and halting traffic for several hours. until officials could douse the blaze.

Crews with the Tega Cay, Flint Hill and Riverview fire departments responded to a fire at were sent to 1125 Molokai Drive at about 9:20 a.m., said Tega Cay firefighter Ken Sallenger, incident commander on Saturday.

Firefighters battled the flames into the early afternoon, he said. No injuries were reported.

Police blocked traffic on Molokai Drive, forcing several residents to park their cars and walk to their homes.

Sue Gulasky was one of them. She was on her way home from a Lions Club meeting when she came to the roadblock and saw the house “engulfed” in flames. She parked her car about a quarter-mile away from her house and walked home. She picked up at about 12:30 p.m. when the road reopened.

In speaking with neighbors, Gulasky said she learned the three people who lived there heard their smoke detector sound. They escaped the home unharmed.

“They’ve lost everything,” she said. “They woke up to the sound of fire.”

Even from where she stood, Gulasky said she could see the flames consume the home’s living room and deck. She heard the flames cracking.

Part of the house is still standing, but officials said it suffered significant damage. No damage estimate was available Saturday.

A cost estimate on how much damage was caused was unavailable and the York County Fire Marshal’s Office is probing the cause of the blaze.
