— The Fort Mill High golf team finished sixth at the Magnolia Invitational at Beech Creek in Sumter recently.

Fort Mill played 36 holes in one day because of rain during the first day of the tournament. The team shot a 243 in the opening 18 holes and improved with a 237 in the second 18 holes.

“There were some good scores, even with that (bad weather),” said Jackets coach Steve Gribble.

Fort Mill lost two seniors to graduation, but has four starters back from last year’s team. Gribble said he is unsure of how the season will go.

“We have to wait and see how we progress,” he said.

After the Magnolia tournament, Fort Mill won a three-way match later in the week against Nation Ford and York at home.

The Jackets shot a 160 to Nation Ford’s 180 and York’s 183. Fort Mill was led by Cory Brooks and Ryan Seco, who each shot a 39 for the Jackets.

Their scores were followed by a 40 from Graham Carter and 42 from Austin Hite.

Nation Ford was led by Jack Burson, who shot a 42, followed by Will Grantham’s 43 and Riley Hilton’s 45. Will Howell rounded out the scoring for the Falcons with a 50.

Fort Mill will play in two more tournaments this season: the Bengal Invitational in Columbia and the Fleischer Invitational in Rock Hill, both in April.

The Jackets will next play at home Monday against South Pointe and won’t return to its home at Fort Mill Golf Club until April 22 against Northwestern, spending the majority of April on the road.
