FORT MILL — The theme of the 2014 Miss Fort Mill High School Pageant held recently was Wild and Fabulous.
In the weeks leading up to pageant, the FMHS Student Council and The Buzz TV station promoted the event.
Eight girls from each class were selected based on interviews and voting to take part in this years pageant. These 32 representatives had to clear their schedules to prepare for the big day, including rehearsals with choreographer Liz Dukes.
Being given the opportunity to participate in the pageant is such a blessing and being crowned Miss Fort Mill High is every girls dream, said Miss Fort Mill Liza Walker. To earn that my senior year was so exciting and I am so thankful for it. I could not have done it on my own.
In keeping with the Wild and Fabulous theme, the stage was decorated with animal prints and exotic trees and those who volunteered wore an animal print accessory such as zebra print ties. Dresses and tuxes were sponsored by Simply Elegant of Fort Mill and Gregorys Formal Wear of Rock Hill.
Emcees for the night were senior class members Peri Imler and Ross Lordo and entertainment included the FMHS Dance Team. Four judges from the entertainment and pageant industry scored contestants on their interviews, career wear and formal wear. For the first time, the pageant included career wear, allowing the girls to express their interest in a specific career field and give insight to their personality while letting them share something they are passionate about with the audience.
The best part about it was getting to know all the other freshmen girls because I had never even talked to many of them before, said Miss Freshman Casey Hillman. We got to bond a lot and it was a lot more than just competing for a title, it was more about getting closer with your class and finding new friends and people you can relate to.
