FORT MILL — The Tega Cay Lions Club is celebrating its 40th anniversary.
To give back to those who have supported the club for four decades, the Lions Club invites residents to get free health screenings and learn what services are available locally. The Tega Cay Family Wellness Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Glennon Community Center at 15083 Molokai Drive.
“We decided to give back to the community,” said Hope MacBride, Tega Cay Lions Club member. “We wanted to let them know we care.”
The fair will feature vendors including Central Carolina ENT and Audiology, Complete Wellness Chiropractic and York Primary Care. Piedmont Medical Center will offer free heart age profiles based on blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen saturation. Participants must be fasting for a minimum of four hours prior to the screening.
Piedmont will also have bone density screenings available.
The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas will host a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Community Bloodmobile. Participants must have a photo ID. Walk-ins are welcome.
Health fair participants can enjoy health and safety demonstrations, a scavenger hunt and door prizes.
The Tega Cay Fire and Police departments will provide safety tips.
“Hopefully people will learn something,” MacBride said.
Casual Water will have food available for purchase.
The Tega Cay and Fort Mill Lions Club will provide free vision screenings with PediaVision SPOT. The SPOT screens for lazy eye, far and near sightedness, astigmatism and other problems. Tega Cay Eye Care’s Larry Jerge, O.D., will be available to answer questions.
“It’s a good opportunity for parents to come see what PediaVision is all about,” MacBride said. “It’s so important.”
The Lions Club will also kick off the “40 Miles in 40 Days for Sight” fundraiser to purchase a PediaVision SPOT machine for use in local schools.
Participants can pick any 40 days between April 12 and June 7 to solicit sponsors and walk/run/bike/crawl 40 miles in 40 days. There is no entrance fee.
Participants must turn in sponsor forms and money to the Tega Cay Lions Club by June 21. Winners for the highest mileage and the highest dollar amount donated per walk, run, bike or crawl category will be announced at Tega Cay’s annual July 4 fish fry.
