Productive season has sudden end for NaFo tennis

MAC BANKS — No. 1 singles Jonathan Habbick lost in the first round playoff match against Riverside.

— The Nation Ford Falcons tennis team fell 5-1 to Riverside in the opening round of the 4A playoffs.

Nation Ford finished the season 12-4 overall, but struggled with opponents outside of Region III.

The one bright spot in the first round playoff for the Falcons was the doubles win from Alex Smith and Davis Plasko 6-4, 6-0.

Singles players in the No. 1-5 spots all fell in straight sets. No. 1 singles Jonathan Habbick lost 6-2, 6-1 and No. 2 singles Raj Dwivedi lost in the closest of the singles matches, 6-2, 7-6.

No. 3 singles Alex Jacob fell 6-4, 6-3 and No. 4 singles Banks Reigel fell 6-0, 6-1. No. 5 singles Chase Mahrlig also lost 6-2, 6-1.

Despite sending five teams to the playoffs from Region III, no Region III team advanced past the first round.

Rock Hill lost to JL Mann, Clover lost to Mauldin and Lancaster lost to Spartanburg. Fort Mill also lost its first round playoff match to Dorman by an identical score of 5-1.

The only win for Fort Mill came from Jack Cauthen, who won in three sets, 2-6, 6-0, 10-6.

Losing for Fort Mill was Jay Karwatsky 6-0, 6-0; Alex Malaj 6-1, 6-0; Erik Lewis 6-0, 6-0; Matt Brautigam 6-3, 6-1 and Matt Hicks and Sahil Masah 6-1, 6-2 in doubles.

Fort Mill finished the season a 9-8 overall.
