TEGA CAY — Coming off its fifth consecutive Metrolina Swim League championship, the Tega Cay Breakers are reloading again this year for another run at the title.
The Breakers will field a team of 238 swimmers, up 20 kids from last year.
“I have a very strong team this year,” said head coach Cindy Van Buskirk. “I have a lot of 11-years-old and older that are returning. My 11 and up (swimmers) are pretty strong this year.”
The largest number of kids Tega Cay will field is between ages 7 to 10 with 111 swimmers. There’s a sizable squad of older swimmers as well.
“That makes me feel good,” Van Buskirk said. “We have the most 15 to 18-year-olds I have ever had by far.”
Van Buskirk said the competition should be pretty good this year as both Baxter and Rock Hill should have quality teams.
“Baxter is a strong team,” she said. “It’s going to be a good season. All teams have been building their programs.”
Tega Cay will have three home meets. The first will be the season kickoff against Baxter June 9. They will have a home meet June 16 and June 23. They will also travel to Baxter June 19.
The Metrolina Swim Championship and Invitational will be held at the Rock Hill Aquatics Club June 28.
