FORT MILL — A Fort Mill man is in jail weeks after police say he threatened to rape a woman if she did not have sex with him and then hit her several times with a stick as they walked down a neighborhood road.
On April 21, a 33-year-old woman who police note was "bleeding profusely" reported that a man attacked her after she met him on Old Nation Road, according to a Fort Mill Police report. They walked down the road together until the woman became tired and sat alongside the road to rest.
That's when the suspect, identified as Jason Lee Meeks, propositioned her for sex, the report states. When she refused, Meeks, 28, allegedly became angry, covered her mouth with his hands and told her that if she did not comply, he would use force "to get what he wanted...and no one would hear her scream if her mouth was covered."
The woman started kicking Meeks to free herself, the report states. Police say Meeks grabbed a stick from a tree and began hitting the woman in the face. The victim told police she saw blood everywhere "and knew that (Meeks) was going to kill her."
Once he finished hitting her, Meeks took the woman's cell phone, she told officers, so she could not call for help. Police were unable to find Meeks, but they issued warrants for his arrest. He was arrested Saturday and charged with kidnapping, common law strong arm robbery and first-degree assault and battery. Tuesday, he was being held at the York County Detention Center on a $55 commitment charge, but no bond had been set on his other charges.
On Tuesday, the victim filed a restraining order against Meeks, according to court records.
