— A pair of wins last week have put the Fort Mill American Legion Post 43 team at 4-1 on the season.

Led by hot bats that have awakened in recent weeks, Post 43 beat the Queen City Mustangs Post 262 of Charlotte 9-1 and pummeled Rock Hill Post 34 15-4.

Post 43 scattered 12 hits in the win against Rock Hill and was led by Brett Netzer, who went 3 for 3 with two doubles and two RBI and Mason Jordan, who went 1 for 3 with three RBI.

On the mound, Post 43 was led by Josh Jones, who improved to 2-0 on the season, as he went five strong innings allowing two runs on six hits, while striking out five and not walking a single batter.

Post 43 got on the board early in the game, scoring four runs on three hits in the second inning. Cole Avery singled to start things off. His hit was followed by a single from Jake Windham before Justin Borland walked to load the bases.

Netzer then doubled, knocking in Avery and Windham, before Jordan’s sacrifice fly scored Borland.

In the third inning, Rock Hill cut the lead in half after a two-run home run by Colton Pagouta. However, Post 43 bounced back in the bottom of the inning, adding five runs on five hits.

Catcher Justin Tepper walked and Jaden Savage singled before Alex Endler scored Tepper on a sacrifice fly. Another single from Avery and an RBI single from Borland continued the scoring for Post 43. A walk to Netzer then set up a two-run single from Jordan and an RBI single from Jones.

Post 43 cruised defensively as Fort Mill’s pitchers struck out seven batters and got out of several jams as Rock Hill ended an inning four times with at least two runners in scoring position.

Fort Mill added five more runs in the fifth as Netzer led the inning off with his second double of the game, followed by a walk from Jordan. A fielder’s choice then loaded the bases and Fort Mill took advantage of a couple of errors from Rock Hill to add to keep lighting up the scoreboard.

Both Endler and Windham hit RBI doubles in the inning to add the fourth and fifth runs.

Post 43 added one more run in the sixth as Scott Richi walked, stole second and scored on a sacrifice fly from Timmy Lehman.

Earlier in the week, Fort Mill hit the ball well, scoring nine runs on eight hits against Queen City.

Chris Cash got the win on the mound, going six innings allowing three hits and just one run while striking out eight and walking one. Tepper, Windham and Savage all pitched an inning of relief for Post 43, combining for five strikeouts without allowing a base runner.

Tepper went 2-2 in the game with three RBI, including a two run home run. Jordan Helms went 1-4 with two RBI and Netzer went 2-5 with an RBI.

Post 43 has the next week and-a-half off and will be back in action June 18 against Rock Hill at home.
