York Technical College of Rock Hill plans to open a new Indian Land location in August to accommodate about 120 students.
The new campus, located at 1245 Rosemont Drive in Fort Mill, will offer university transfer and technical program academic services and classes, York Tech officials said on Thursday. The college plans to open the new center about 10 miles away from its main Rock Hill campus.
The building is currently being renovated and adapted from its former use.
Indian Land students will be able to take classes for transferable credit to four-year schools or to earn an associate in arts degree.
In support of our mission of maximizing student success, this center will continue the colleges focus on career readiness and training for current and emerging careers, while also contributing to economic development efforts to strengthen the community-at-large, said York Tech President Dr. Greg F. Rutherford in the college's news release.
Along with the new location, the college is offering an exclusive scholarship for the first 100 new students at the Indian Land campus. To be eligible, students must register to attend classes exclusively at the Indian Land location by August 1 or prior to the 100 student limit being reached.
The college has a free online application. Interested students need to email firstname.lastname@example.org, school officials said.
York Tech is a public, two-year college that offers associate degrees, diplomas and certificates.
In the future, school officials say the Indian Land location will offer more technical programming. The new center will also offer student support services such as admissions and financial aid counseling, career support, a computer lab, a testing area and library services.
Early next year, the college will begin phasing in additional programs and increase the capacity of the Indian Land building, officials said.
The Indian Land center will join York Tech's five other training or student services locations in addition to the main Rock Hill campus on Anderson Road. The school's other centers include a truck driving training facility, heavy equipment operation training center and off-campus support areas in Kershaw and Chester.
