Kasko joins medical center
Kirsten Kasko, a certified Family Nurse Practitioner, has accepted a job at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg. The 27-year-old Tega Cay and 1998 Fort Mill High School graduate earned a Master of Science in nursing from the Medical University of South Carolina. Kasko earned a bachelor's degree in veterinary sciences from West Virginia University in 2002. In 2005, she received a bachelor's degree in nursing from MUSC. Kasko has worked as a Registered Nurse in the emergency room of St. Francis Hospital in Charleston for the last two years.
Fort Mill Area Homeschoolers will host an information meeting for anyone interested in homeschooling from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. Monday, April 21, at the Fort Mill Public Library.
Annual awards program April 22
The annual Fort Mill Education and Volunteer Awards program will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, at the Leroy Springs Recreation Complex, 971 Tom Hall St., Fort Mill.
Students, volunteers and teachers of the year from area public and private schools will be honored. Sponsorships are still available. To become a gold sponsor the cost is $750, for a silver sponsor the cost is $500. Sponsorships for $150 are also available. Nominations are also being accepted for "Civic Volunteer of the Year" and "Citizen of the Year."

Springs student loans available
Applications for Leroy Springs Student Loans will be available beginning Tuesday, April 1, for students who are planning full-time attendance at a four-year accredited college or university in the state of South Carolina or at York Technical College in the fall.
Loans for up to $3,000 a year for under grads and $4,000 a year for medical or dental school students, are based primarily on need and are for tuition, room and board and fees. They are available for undergraduate students, nursing students, students enrolled in medical or dental school and students attending York Tech. Applications can be picked up at the foundation's office at 1826 Second Baxter Crossing in Fort Mill and its Lancaster office at 201 West Gay Street. High school seniors can also pick up applications at their school's guidance office.
The deadline for applications is Thursday, May 1, for students planning to enter school in the fall.
