Bradford Scholarship awarded

Haley Newman, a Fort Mill High School senior, has been awarded the 2008 Bradford Scholarship by the Fort Mill Times. The scholarship, named in honor of the paper's founders and former publishers William R. Bradford and William R. Bradford Jr., is awarded each spring to a FMHS graduating senior planning to study journalism or mass communications at a college or university in South Carolina.

Newman, who maintains a 3.7 grade-point average and is assistant editor of the high school yearbook, plans to attend York Technical College or Anderson College this fall to study mass communications and integrated marketing.

Marks graduates

Hillary Jane Marks, daughter of Scott and Jane Marks of Fort Mill, graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in early childhood education from Coastal Carolina University May 10.

Marks was inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa, the national leadership honor society, and Kappa Delta Pi, the International Society in Education, while at Coastal. She made the Dean's List each term.

Marks is a 2004 graduate of Fort Mill High School and plans to teach elementary education.
