Registration dates set for Indian Land

Registration dates for new and existing Indian Land students are:

• Indian Land Elementary will register new students and kindergarten students today from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Returning students will have teacher assignments mailed to their homes.

• Registration for students returning to Indian Land Middle School will be 8 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m. Aug. 5-6.

• Indian Land High will hold registration, schedule pick-up and class pictures from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 5 for seniors and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 5 for juniors, 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 6 for sophomores, and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 6 for freshmen.

All new students must bring two proofs of residency, Social Security card, birth certificate and immunization records.

Lisk graduates

Jason Lisk of Fort MIll graduated May 10 from the Wingate University School of Pharmacy with a Doctorate of Pharmacy. A 1999 graduate of Fort Mill High School, Lisk is the son of Jim and Gina Lisk of Huntersville, N.C.

Case graduates

Amanda Leigh (Mandy) Case graduated from Coastal Carolina University in May with a degree in elementary education. Case was frequently on the Dean's List and was a member of Kappa Delta Phi Honor Society. She graduated from Fort Mill High School in 2003.

Hill on Dean's List

Zakk Hill, son of Eddie and Kary Hill of Fort Mill, was named to the Dean's List at Winthrop University for the spring semester.

Hill is pursuing a degree in business management and is transferring to the College of Charleston this fall.

FMMS classmates honored

Rising Fort Mill Middle School eighth-graders Serena Walker, who won the Fort Mill Middle School Geography Bee, and Rosemary Marino, who participated in the S.C. Council on Economic Education's Poster Contest, were both honored recently.

Serena took a 70-question written test to compete on the state level. Rosemary's drawing of an example of "Scarcity" was selected for publication in the 2008-'09 Economic Concepts Calendar. She will receive a $50 U.S. savings bond and have her birthday printed on the calendar.

Student artists needed for contest

Art on Main, a local festival held in the fall, is holding a student illustration contest. The theme is a children's picture book by Derick Wilder titled "My Superest Superheroes."

All entries will be displayed in the "My Superherest Superheroes" section of Art on Main. Winning entries will be awarded ribbons and the artists' names will be published in the Fort Mill Times and be announced during the show, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 11.
