Spirit Week lets Indian Land students show their school pride while having fun
(Published September 24, 2008)

Indian Land students came to school dressed wacky and weird last week, all to show off their Warrior pride.

Last week was Spirit Week for Indian Land students. Activities for the students included dressing up for theme days such as Tacky Day, Favorite Celebrity Day and Blue and Gold Day.

Awards were given out to students who wore the most unique costumes. Student body President Kelsey Gibson said her favorite costume of the week was Josh Bishop's Colonial costume, worn on Decade Day, when students wore clothes from their favorite decade.

Bishop was dressed head-to-toe in Colonial gear including knickers, a vest and a Colonial-era hat.

Each class of students was also given the opportunity to decorate a hallway in the school. The senior class won the contest with their "Seniorwood" theme, their version of Hollywood, complete with a red carpet.

For Blue and Gold Day, when students wear their school colors, students also participated in a pep rally.

Sophomore Haley Rabic, the student body publicist, said the pep rally and Blue and Gold Day were her favorite events.

"I think it gets you into the pride of the school and you get to participate and have fun while showing your pride, especially getting excited for the game," Rabic said. "Especially Blue and Gold Day. That's the funnest. And at the pep rally when you get to yell and holler."

During Friday night's football game against Andrew Jackson High School, Indian Land's homecoming queen, Gretchen Shoemaker, was crowned. After the game, students danced the night away at a homecoming dance.

"The school spirit this week shone through so much and has been better than ever, and it is so much better than ever before," Gibson said.
