Warriors send 22 to Upper State

The Indian Land boys and girls track team hosted the Region III-A meet at Indian Land last week and qualified a long list of athletes to compete at the Upper State meet.

"Everyone did a fantastic job," said head coach Nicole Hemric.

The boys finished third overall behind McBee, who took home first, and Chesterfield who finished in second place. Following behind Indian Land were Lewisville in fourth, North Central in fifth and Great Falls in the sixth-place spot.

The girls team took home second overall, getting beat out by Chesterfield who took home first place, and winning over McBee (3), North Central (4), Lewisville (5) and Great Falls (6).

Athletes who finished in the top four now advance to Upper State, which will take place on May 3rd at Landrum.

Senior Wesley Scott, who has been competing strong all year qualified for the boys, as did Marcus Williams, who continues to excel in his jumping events. Seniors Joel Sinnet and David Rogers will also advance, as did Sammy Dorgham, Luke Carnes, Rondreas Truesdale, Travis Butler and Breyon Williams.

Mariah Williams will make her third trip to state this year. Sisters Tia and Lindsay Johnson also fought hard and qualified to compete this Saturday. Other qualifiers for the team include MyKela Hallums, Dimetrius Stinson, Destiny Todd, Brittany Montgomery, Genesis Gonzalez, Courtney Simpson, Tameka Robinson, Meghan Moore, Bailey Jones and Martika Sistare.
