Rains couldn't dampen the spirits of the Indian Land Lady Warriors softball team, despite having the Upper State tournament semi-finals postponed after a drenching rain in Chesterfield.
The Lady Warriors still have their hands full in the Upper State tournament bracket with McBee and Chesterfield as possible opponents. Indian Land split the season series with McBee and swept the series against Chesterfield.
The Lady Warriors have won nine straight games dating back to spring break and entered Monday's game having beaten Fox Creek in the opening round of the Upper State bracket 2-1.
Now 19-9 on the year, Indian Land held Fox Creek to just two hits in Saturday's game as senior Kimber Coley led.
"She pitched a good game," said head coach Monica Barfield. "The senior leadership came through for us."
Barfield said she wasn't happy without her team swung the bats collecting only four hits in the game, all from the top of the order in batters one through four.
Indian Land didn't pick up its first hit until sophomore Paige Brugh doubled in senior Ashley Vitek in the third inning.
Fox Creek didn't get its first hit until the fourth inning, a single with two outs.
Fox Creek singled to lead off the seventh inning down 1-0, but an error by the right fielder allowed the base runner to get to third. She would tie the game at 1-1 on the next pitch on a sacrifice.
But in the bottom of the eighth with the game tied at one, Coley doubled and scored the winning run when senior Jacquelyn Delaune singled.
Indian Land got to the Upper State tournament bracket by beating Southside Christian 8-2 in the District III championship. The Warriors, who struggled earlier against Southside managing only three hits came out on fire and scattered 14 hits this time around.
Junior Kristin Campbell improved to 9-3 on the mound and was aided by perfect defense from her teammates, while Southside Christian didn't help their cause with five errors.
Delaune went 2-3 with two RBIs and Coley went 3-4 with an RBI and two runs scored as Indian Land busted the game open in the fifth inning with three runs and added four runs in the sixth inning.
