Warriors head to state
Indian Land's track team traveled to compete at Upper State track qualifiers Saturday and are moving ahead to the State Championships this week with several athletes. Mariah Williams took first place in the 100-meter hurdles and fourth in high jump to move on to state competition. The boys 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams finished second and will also advance. David Rogers will compete in the 400-meters, Wes Scott took first in the 1,600 and 3,200-meters to advance and Joel Sinnett also took first in the 800-meters with a chance to compete at state.
The Fort Mill girls lacrosse varsity team beat Columbia's AC Flora 10-5 recently. The offensive leaders were Mady Katz, who has 30 goals for the season, and Katie Cheney with three goals. Rachel Weber, Farrah Bui, Grace Caywood, and Emily Keys each added goals as well. The assist leader for the game was Weber with three. Katz, Katie Cheney, and Angie Shafer contributed one assist each. The defense was led by Farrah Bui, who forced eight turnovers and has been named to the state All-Star team, with Martha Scott Alford forcing five. Katz, Bailey Masters, and Alex Barilla added three forced turnovers each. For the game, goalie Angie Case was credited with nine saves to bring her total to 148 on the year.
Legion tryouts
The Fort Mill American Legion Post 43 baseball team will be holding tryouts at 6 p.m. May 7 at Fort Mill High baseball field.
Cheer Jewels All-Star cheerleading
Sign-up for the 2008-2009 Cheer Jewels season is underway through Saturday, May 10. A placement workshop will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. May 10 at the Leroy Springs Recreation Complex. Cheer Jewels is for children ages 4-14 and for all ability levels. Participants will learn to stunt, tumble, jump, dance and cheer. For more information, call Jennifer Wilson at 372-7082.
Softball tourney for cancer
There will be a men's Class D round-robin softball tournament to be held at Leroy Springs Recreation Complex 8 a.m. May 10 until finished. Entry fee $150. All proceeds donated to Relay for Life. For more information, call 230-3774.
Football clinic
The Indian Land Football staff will host its second annual youth football coach's clinic for all area rec and youth football coaches Saturday, May 17. The clinic is free of charge, breakfast will be served at 8:30 a.m. and the clinic will begin at 9:15 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. Presently, the line up of confirmed speakers includes Indian Land staff, Lancaster High football coach Bennie McMurray, York High athletic director Steve Boyd, Will Mitchell, and NFL official Jimbo Howey.
Tennis clinic
Nation Ford tennis coach Matt Rohring has wrapped up the season for his team, but he's still looking to get in the game. On May 17 at the school's tennis courts Rohring, along with the varsity girls and boys tennis players, will host a tennis clinic for boys and girls ages 6-11. The girls clinic will run from 9-11:30 a.m., followed by the boys clinic from 1-3:30 p.m.
Cost for the event is $30, which includes a T-shirt and drinks. For an additional $5.50, a BBQ plate that includes smoked brisket, cole slaw and baked beans will be served. Presale tickets are available for any varsity tennis player for $5.

Offensive line camp
Nation Ford High school will host a one day camp for offensive linemen May 24 at the school. Registration is between 8-9 a.m. with the camp ending near 4 p.m. Bring tennis shoes in case of rain. Golf tourney
The Fort Mill chapter of Beta Sigma Phi is hosting its second Annual Charity Golf Tournament June 6 at the Tega Cay Golf Club. The tournament will benefit the Fort Mill School District. All monies raised tournament will go to the education foundation and will stay in the school district to help students or teachers.
