The Fort Mill boys golf team finished tied for 10th in the state among 4A schools in the state championships last week.
At championships, held at Furman University, Fort Mill shot a 54-hole total of 957 to tie with Fort Dorchester for 10th on the 6,800-yard course. Dutch Fork won the state championship shooting an 897.
After the first round, Fort Mill shot a 324, and was in 12th. Senior Bryan Otis led Fort Mill after the first round with a 77, but withdrew from the tournament because of illness. His score was followed by senior Jason Hnat's 78, an 84 from senior Scott Boston and 85s from seniors Michael Kozlowski and Clay Butler.
In the second round, the Jackets were pretty much on the same pace, shooting a 327 for a two-round total of 651- still out of the top 10, but close, at 11th.
Senior Tyler Forbes, replacing Otis, led the Jackets in the second round with a 75. Hnat followed with an 81 in the second round. Kozlowski followed with a 82, improving by three strokes from his first round score and Boston ended the round for Fort Mill with an 89.
On the second day, Fort Mill improved by 21 strokes to shoot a 306 that moved the team into the top 10.
Hnat shot a one over par 73 to lead Fort Mill and was followed by Kozlowski's and Butler's 77, Boston's 79 and Forbes' 80.
Fort Mill is a very senior heavy team this year and will be losing 10 players on its roster due to graduation.
