Knights to play at Fenway

The Charlotte Knights' road trip in early August will take them from Syracuse to Pawtucket to...Boston?

Yes, the Knights and Pawtucket will square of in the third annual Futures at Fenway minor league double-header at Boston's Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox Aug. 9. Futures at Fenway gives Boston area Red Sox fans a chance to see the stars of tomorrow. It will be the Knights first time taking part in the game.

Fenway Park is one of the oldest baseball parks in the country having hosting its first game on April 20, 1912.

The Knights and Pawtucket will face each other in the second game of the doubleheader scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

If you are willing to make the trip, ticket prices will rang from $5 (for Upper Bleachers) to $30 (for Green Monster Seats, Dugout Seats, the EMC Club and the State Street Pavilion Club). Additionally, hot dogs and sodas will be discounted $1 for the minor league doubleheader.

• A struggling Charlotte Knights team now sits in third place in the South Division of the International League, after a pretty good start.

Six games behind division leading Richmond, Charlotte is 18-25 through Sunday.

Charlotte ranks about middle of the pack in runs per game with an average of four per game, However, they are giving that many up as well. The team is batting .256 and has a 4.17 ERA.

Outfielder Dewayne Wise still leads the league in hitting with a .344 average, but is tied with Norfolk's Luis Terrero for that lead. Wise is also second in the league outright with an .421 on-base percentage and third in the league in slugging percentage behind teammate Brad Eldred.

Eldred is hitting .288 with 11 home runs and 35 RBIs. The 11 home runs is second in the league and he leads the league in RBIs.

On the mound, pitchers Lance Broadway and Wes Whisler both are 5-1 on the year and have led the team. Whisler has a 2.38 ERA through 41 2/3 innings and Broadway has a 1.12 ERA through 48 innings.
