Despite being near the bottom of the league, the Charlotte Knights still have several players near the top of standings.

Outfielder Dewayne Wise is third in the league in batting with a .319 average with nine home runs and 23 RBIs. Teammate and first baseman Brad Elder is leading the league in home runs with 26 and RBIs with 72. Elder is a good 15 RBIs ahead of second place Brent Clevlen of Toledo and three home runs ahead of Toledo's Mike Hessman.

Of the 77 games the Knights have played this year, Elder has played in the most of them with 76 through Sunday. Second baseman Chris Getz has played in 71 games, while hitting .299 with six home runs and 29 RBIs.

Since the start of the season, there have been several new Knights added to the squad. Besides Getz and Elderd, there are 10 position players on the roster that have appeared in fewer than 50 games, including Josh Field, who has appeared in just 46 games for the Knights.

Leftfielder Jason Bourgeois has been in 65 games followed by centerfielder Jerry Owens, who has been in 59 games, and shortstop Fernando Cortez, who has been in 57 games.

On the mound, pitchers Lance Broadway and Wes Whisler are both tied for third in wins in the league with eight each. Those wins account for 16 of the Knights 33 on the year.

Whisler is 8-4 on the year with a 3.10 ERA in 14 games, while Broadway is 8-4 with a 3.27 ERA in 15 games.

The Knights have been keeping their arms fresh for the most part on the mound. Of the 77 games this year, right-handed pitcher Jason Childres has had the most appearances with 28 games going 3-1 with a 1.74 ERA and four saves. Eleven of the 15 pitchers on the Knights roster have made at least 10 appearances this season.
