Fort Mill's Post 43 continues through playoffs
(Published July 16, 2008)

FORT MILL -- Fort Mill Post 43 tried twice to play "it's a doubleheader" at Clover last week to end the regular season. But heavy afternoon rain washed out the games. The rest of League V waited for the results to complete the playoff picture.

Finally on Saturday Fort Mill beat Clover, 4-2. The win gave Post 43 a 9-6 record, clinching second place in the league. The team's agreed one game was enough and they canceled the nightcap.

"Steven Simpson threw a great game for us (Saturday)," Post 43 coach Erik Baddeley said. Simpson went the distance, striking out five in seven innings of work.

League V meets League VI in the first round of the playoffs. The playoffs follow a best-of-five format and began Monday.

Chester Post 27 won the league with a 13-2 record. They are playing Inman.

Fort Mill (9-6) finished second. By virtue of a coin flip Post 43 won home field advantage, giving them three home games if needed.

They hosted Gaffney Monday and have a home game Wednesday and Friday (if necessary). They played at Gaffney Tuesday and will travel out Hwy. 5 again Thursday for Game 4 if required.

Rock Hill finished third at 8-8. They are playing Spartanburg in the first round.
