The Tega Cay Golf Club and Fort Mill's Eternal Presbyterian Church have teamed up to organize The Eternal Cup golf league.

The league runs two championship tournaments each year in the spring and fall. The fall league will run for six consecutive weeks beginning Sunday, Sept. 14. Teams will be comprised of two players playing best ball over nine holes.

Best ball is a golf term in which each player tees off at each hole. The players must choose one of the tee shots and hit from that location no more than one club length from the ball's final location, except that the location may not be closer to the pin.

Rounds will be played at 3 p.m. each Sunday. A shotgun start will be used.

Scott Namowicz is the league director. He says the league is all about having fun and helping the community.

"The league is a way to get out in the community, hang out and get to know people. It also raises money for our church outreach programs," Namowicz said.

The Web site will also post standings throughout the season. The league is limited to 18 teams.

The league will dole out end of season awards for the following:

• Top Team: lowest average score w/handicap

• Top Mixed Couple (male/female): lowest average score w/handicap

• Top Sr. Team (65+): lowest average score w/handicap, both players must meet age requirement

• Top Jr. Team (under 21): lowest average score w/handicap, both players must meet age requirement

• Best Finish From Handicap: smallest difference of average score w/handicap from team handicap score (36 + handicap)

Depending on sponsorship, other prizes will be awarded for various events during league play such as longest drive and closest to pin.
