Enjoy tennis, but have no one to hit with? Then this may be just what you've been looking for.
A Flex Tennis League is the U.S. Tennis Association's new ladder format. Registration for the local league is open until Wednesday, Sept. 3, according to Bill Tasker, the local league's coordinator.
Players are assigned a new opponent each week and its up to the players to decide when and where they play. Win or lose, every player will have a minimum of five opponents.
"We will begin the matches on Sept. 8 and play through Nov. 10. Each player will have five matches in the league," Tasker explained.
Registered singles players play where and when they both agree on courts in
Fort Mill, Tega Cay, Rock Hill, Lancaster, Chester, the Palisades and whatever other local venues are available. Tasker is expecting 150 players in the league.
"This is a good league because people can play whenever they want" said
Jesse Dunagan, president of the Tega Cay Tennis Association.
"My wife and I just finished second against the two time National Champs in the 82nd annual National Public Parks Tennis Championships in Columbia and plan to get
involved with the Flex League."
Dunagan is hoping that many local tennis enthusiasts will take advantage of the flexibility in playing in this ladder format league.
The NTRP ratings are 2.5-4.0 Men and Women. There will be a local winner and
a prize. Fees are $25 for USTA members and $35 for non- members. To register or find the rules for the league, go to www.ustaflexleagues.com and click on the "Register Now" button. League statistics and match results will be posted on the Web site.
