Fort Mill shutout

The defending 1A state champions, the Chesterfield Golden Rams, trampled the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets 42-0 Friday night on their home turf. Coach Ed Susi said prior to the game that he worried about the Rams' speed.

"They're well-coached, they're experienced, and they're fast," Susi stated. "We gotta be more disciplined."

As the Jackets look to this Friday, when they will battle the Lancaster Bruins, another challenging opponent who ran over Jackson High School 31-6, Susi hopes to see greater discipline and dedication.

His players seem to be listening.

"We gotta stay disciplined and not bend or break," halfback and linebacker Max Simmons said.

"We've struggled. A lot of it is nerves. [But] we have a good team chemistry," said quarterback Danny Till.

"We can do a lot of checks and adjustments in understanding our philosophy," Susi said.

Nation Ford loses

Nation Ford High School is now 1-1 after a hard-fought 22-15 loss to Great Falls. The Falcons scored on their first possession when Mitchell Starnes hooked up with Lance Jacobs for a 12-yd TD just 1:34 into the game. Starnes took in the two-point conversion and the Falcons led 8-0.

Indian Land 14, Buford 6

The Warriors were in their 14-6 loss Friday night to the Buford Yellow Jackets until the very end. Indian Land's Chris Camero hit Luke Lambert for a 71-yard touchdown in the game.

NFHS JV wins

The Nation Ford Junior Varsity Football team won 20-6 at Great Falls last Thursday.

The Red Devils were out to an early lead with a long touchdown pass that slipped past the Falcons' defense. The Falcons' offense answered back with a touchdown and two-point conversion to take an 8-6 lead.

The defensive unit for NFHS was led by sophomore Linebacker Patrick Shopshire, Steven Zubkoff, Jordan Callahan, LA Lanum and Casey Snipes.

Nation Ford used a no-huddle offense that wore down the Red Devils. Two big plays in the game were an interception by Zubkoff pinning the Red Devils on their side of the field late in the game and a fourth and long completion from Thomas Condron to sophomore Will Ford in the ensuing drive.

Ford took the pass and fought for the needed yards to keep the drive alive that ended in the final touchdown run by Brandon Sturdivant.
