Despite a recent pounding from the Rock Hill Bearcats, Fort Mill High's Yellow Jackets believe they still have a chance in a tough conference to produce a midseason turnaround.

Now's just as good time as any to believe. FMHS began celebrating Spirit Week Monday. The fun-filled week was one way to help the Jackets get over last Friday's 50-0 loss at Bob Jones Stadium.

The Bearcats - a team that is on the rise after beating last season's 4-A state champions, the Clover Blue Eagles - pounded Fort Mill with 225 yards on 28 carries. Beleaguered Fort Mill quarterback Danny Till completed nine passes for 48 yards. Till said from watching tapes the team needs to focus on "being in the right spots."

Senior wide receiver and defensive back Tyler Mastera said losing brings "anger, and that's it! Losing isn't what we do!"

Fort Mill's players are trying to turn the page and salvage the season.

"You try to block a loss like that out of your head," said senior wide receiver and defensive back Jacob Scartozzi. "[We have] to get the team better."

It's Homecoming Week and the Jackets are going to have to muster as much fight as they can when they host the 5-0 Boiling Springs Bulldogs Friday.

"We have struggled, but we get better each game and work hard," Till stated.

Coach Susi and the Jackets said they hunger for more than just one or two touchdowns against the powerhouse they face.

Offensive and defensive lineman Garret Passatore said Susi has been drilling home the idea of being able "to pull out a big win and score points on offense. [We] try not to remember those [large loss] games!"

"[Susi] hopes to get us up and running to finish out strong," Mastera said.
