Nation Ford raced out to a 20-0 halftime lead against York Friday only to see the wheels fall off as the Cougars stormed back and defeated the Falcons 40-36.
The loss dropped Nation Ford out of playoff contention and its record to 2-8 on the season.
Nation Ford will close out its season Friday against rival Fort Mill.
The Yellow Jackets, who are 0-10, have proved to be the Falcons' biggest rival since the new schools opened last season.
"Our game with Fort Mill means everything for our team; everyone has looked forward to this game from day one," Falcons head coach Rusty Jester said.
"Bragging rights always bring out the best in teams so this game should be a good one."
Jester admits that both teams have struggled so far this season, but said that each has been improving as the season progressed.
The two teams will be ready for each other and both coaches know everything the other is capable of doing both offensively and defensively.
Jester said he thinks the Falcons still have a long way to go to compete regularly in the league. Nation Ford has got to get faster and stronger to play against the bigger schools that they will face on a yearly basis. For now, the coaches are aiming to win the last game of the season and finish on a positive note. It doesn't hurt that they have a chance to keep Fort Mill's winless streak alive.
Jester is optimistic about the future and is pleased with the fight the Falcons have shown. They are only in their second season and Jester knows that starting a program takes at least a couple of years to get the team where they need to be. He said that the team this season showed him toughness and he commends them for the effort they have shown all season.
"I am very proud of our team they have continued to work hard every week," Jester said. "Our record does not indicate just how hard we have worked."
